Syrian Troops Target Gang Bases in Hama and Idlib Provinces

21 August 2023

The Syrian army's artillery units launched an offensive against armed groups' positions in the northern Hama province. According to a report from the Al Watan newspaper, heavy artillery fire was directed at the militants in response to their breach of the ceasefire in the northern de-escalation zone.

The artillery strikes precisely targeted the enemy's command posts and rear installations in the Sirmaniyah, Al-Ziyarah, and Khirbat al-Naqus districts within the Orontes Valley.

Earlier, Syrian military forces carried out attacks on outposts belonging to the extremist group Al-Nusra Front (banned in Russia) in the nearby Idlib province. The publication reported that the militants' fortifications in Kensarf and Sufukhun, located in the mountainous terrain of Jabal Zawiya, were struck, leading to casualties among the militants.

In the eastern region of Syria, government troops are engaged in an operation against the terrorist organization known as the "Islamic State" (IS, banned in Russia). As reported by Al Watan, elite special units of the Syrian Army, along with militia forces, successfully eliminated an IS group during clashes in the As Sukhnah oasis.

Tragically, on August 10, terrorists ambushed and killed 33 Syrian servicemen near the town of Al Mayadin (368 km from Damascus). Some soldiers were captured and taken to the al-Badiya desert, where the terrorists maintain their bases.

The Al Hadath TV channel reports that IS militants have executed more than 40 armed raids in eastern Syria since the onset of 2023. In the Deir ez-Zor province, 67 soldiers and militiamen fell victim to these attacks, while in Raqqa, the terrorists claimed the lives of 57 soldiers and 49 civilians.
