Thanks to its spiritual and moral values, Russia has never known interreligious wars throughout its history, and has always lived in an environment of good-neighborliness between the nations and followers of different faiths. The statement was made by Shaykh al-Islam Talgat Tadzhuddin, Chairman of the Central Religious Board of Muslims, Grand Mufti of Russia, speaking at the meeting of the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic World" titled "Russia - Islamic World: traditional spiritual and moral values as a basis for interreligious cooperation". The event takes place in the Kazan Town Hall as part of the XIV International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum".
"The topic of the meeting fully corresponds to the sociopolitical situation both Russia and the rest of the world are in. It is thanks to spiritual and moral values that Russia throughout its history has never known interreligious wars, lived in conditions of good-neighborliness of peoples and followers of different faiths. Only through restoring the spiritual and moral values of traditional religions in the hearts of future generations can we hope for the mercy of the Creator, through mutual understanding and brotherly cooperation between the nations and countries of the world", the religious leader stressed.
Islam, according to Tadzhuddin, is not just the second-largest religion by number of adherents. Russian President Vladimir Putin noted the important contribution of Islam to the development of the Russian society and its social and political life during the festivities celebrating the 22nd anniversary of the Central Religious Board of Muslims. Besides, last November the head of the Russian state signed a decree about preserving and strengthening traditional spiritual and moral values, which also fully corresponds to interests of representatives of 200 nations living on the territory of the Russian Federation.
