Entrepreneurs from Tajikistan and Iran have signed agreements fostering cooperation in the production and processing sectors, bringing a potential investment of nearly $19 million into Tajikistan's economy. These collaborations were formalized during the official visit of Rustam Emomali, Chairman of the upper house of Tajikistan's parliament and Chairman of the city of Dushanbe, to Tehran, as reported by his press service.
"To implement the signed documents on cooperation, it is planned to attract more than 1.3 billion somoni (almost $19 million) to the country's economy," stated the press service, emphasizing the aim to expand cooperation in processing and producing chemical, textile, construction products, and medicines. The collaboration will leverage Tajikistan's internal capabilities in conjunction with Iranian partners.
Emomali's two-day official visit included meetings with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Chairman of the Assembly of the Islamic Council of Iran Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and other senior Iranian officials. The discussions resulted in the signing of 15 new documents covering inter-parliamentary cooperation, inter-regional cooperation in trade, economic and humanitarian spheres, as well as collaboration in the production sector.
Trade turnover between the two countries for the first 11 months of 2023 amounted to over $216 million, marking a 4% increase compared to the same period in 2022, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan. In November 2023, President Raisi visited Dushanbe, where he held talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon. The meeting led to the signing of 19 new documents, including a cooperation program outline until 2030.
