Tajikistan's Presidential Drug Control Agency has entered into a cooperation agreement with the Russian Interior Ministry. The two agencies have committed to collaborating in the fight against the illegal trafficking of prohibited substances. This information was conveyed by the press service of the Tajik agency.
"The signing ceremony of the agreement between the Drug Control Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for cooperation and assistance to the agency in combating the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors was conducted," as mentioned in the press release.
The document is valid for the period from 2023 to 2025, as mentioned in the report. The signing took place with Habibullo Vokhidzoda, the Director of the Tajik side, and Vladimir Kolokoltsev, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Russia, participating remotely.
The signing ceremony was attended by Semyon Grigoriev, the Russian Ambassador to Dushanbe. During the event, Ambassador Grigoriev discussed with the agency's director the collaborative efforts of the Russian Federation and Tajikistan in combating drug-related issues. Vokhidzoda expressed his gratitude for the support provided by the Russian Federation to Tajikistan. Additionally, they both expressed concerns about the rising drug smuggling activities originating from Afghanistan, a problem in which Tajikistan plays a pivotal role in addressing. This situation was highlighted in Tajik President Emomali Rahmon's speech during the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York in September. President Rakhmon noted the increasing drug smuggling from Afghanistan, with Tajik security forces seizing over 10 tons of drugs at the border with Afghanistan in the past two years.
