Experts of working groups of governmental delegations of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan on the delimitation and demarcation of the state border have described more than 100 kilometers of the common area within a year and a half,  Foreign Minister of Tajikistan Sirodjiddin Muhriddin told reporters on Friday.

"Over a year and a half, the parties have completed the design description of the 102 km long Tajik-Kyrgyz state border line. In general, the agreed upon line of the common border of the two countries is now about 626 kilometers," said the head of the diplomatic mission.

According to him, seven meetings of topographic working groups were held in 2022. "As a result, certain progress was achieved on specific sections of the Tajik-Kyrgyz state border, in particular, 19.06 km of the state border line was described," he said. The minister pointed out that the description falls on the districts of Devashtich, Spitamen and Jabbor of Rasulov district of Sughd region of Tajikistan on the border with Leilek district of Kyrgyzstan. Muhriddin explained that work in this direction is carried out systematically.

The situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border escalated on September 14, 2022, and clashes continued for several days. Both sides reported casualties and destruction. After several rounds of negotiations on September 25 last year, the parties signed a protocol to stabilize the situation.

The border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan is more than 980 kilometers long. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, dozens of disputed sections were left on it. Disputes and conflicts arise from time to time in some parts of the border areas.
