Tajikistan-Russia investment forum opens in Dushanbe

The Tajikistan-Russia international investment forum, which starts its work in Dushanbe on Thursday, will become a unified discussion platform for investors and representatives of business circles of both countries. A Russian delegation headed by Russian Deputy Minister of Economic Development Dmitry Volvach has arrived in the capital of Tajikistan to participate in the forum.


Forum participants will discuss investment opportunities in the industrial, energy, agricultural sectors, as well as in information technology and tourism. Meetings of Tajik and Russian entrepreneurs in the B2B format are planned.


"We attach great importance to creation of a unified discussion platform in an informal and interactive environment for leaders of business and financial circles and the investment community, as well as facilitating direct contacts between entrepreneurs of the two countries," Shukhrat Yusufzod, the head of the investment promotion department of the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management of Tajikistan, told TASS. According to him, the forum aims to promote specific projects, provide investment proposals and search for business partners interested in implementing joint projects. He noted that investment opportunities of the two countries will be presented during the forum. "Tajikistan is interested in investing in such priority areas of the economy as industry, energy, agriculture, digitalization of the economy and tourism," Yusufzod said.


Almost 150 participants from the Russian Federation


According to the head of Russia's trade mission in Tajikistan Yevgeny Korenkov, the forum will bring together "almost 150 entrepreneurs, investors, representatives of federal and regional authorities, financial support institutions." According to him, "the main purpose of the forum is to facilitate direct contacts between the business circles that will be able to launch new Russian projects in the industry, energy and agriculture in Tajikistan."


The investment forum is held by order of the governments of Tajikistan and Russia. It is organized by the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia with the participation of the Ministry of Industry of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, and the Russian trade mission in the republic. Representatives of economic departments, business and financial circles of the two countries will gather on one platform.


 
Russian investments in Tajikistan
 

According to the State Committee of the Republic of Tajikistan for the last 13 years, Russian investors have invested more than $1.66 billion in the economy of Tajikistan, of which $899.5 million were direct investments and $769.8 million provided as a loan from businesses and organizations. Their volume accounts for 15% of the total volume of foreign investments in the country.


At the same time, in the first half of 2022 the total volume of Russian investments in the economy of Tajikistan amounted to $18.4 million, an increase of 16 times compared to the same period in 2021, when the figure was equal to $1.1 million. Russia's investments were directed to such sectors of the republic as construction, communications, exploration, energy, healthcare, trade, tourism and others.
