Taliban discussed with Kabulov withdrawal of movement participants from UN sanctions

A delegation from the Qatari political office of the Taliban movement (banned in Russia) discussed at a meeting with the Russian Presidential Special Representative for Afghanistan and Director of the Second Asian Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Zamir Kabulov, the issues of excluding members of the movement from the UN Security Council sanctions lists, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, the movement's representative, told reporters on Friday.


"Yesterday we discussed this issue with his Excellency Kabulov. He, too, supports the desire for removal from the sanctions lists," he said.


Zamir Kabulov met with a delegation from the Qatari Taliban political office on Thursday.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Russian side called for the rapid launch of meaningful inter-Afghan negotiations leading to an end to the civil war and the formation of effective state leadership. Representatives of the Taliban supported Moscow's active efforts on the track of national reconciliation, the diplomatic mission added.
