On Wednesday, Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan Dmitry Zhirnov met in Kabul with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Interim Government of Afghanistan formed by the radical Taliban movement (banned in the Russian Federation) Amir Khan Muttaqi. This was reported by Hafiz Zia Ahmad, the deputy spokesman for the Taliban foreign ministry.

"At the meeting there was a detailed discussion of cooperation between Afghanistan and Russia in the field of politics, security and economy. The foreign minister said Afghanistan is interested in expanding relations with Russia politically and economically," Ahmad wrote on Twitter.

"Muttaqi also told Mr. Zhirnov that security in Afghanistan has improved and, fortunately, there is no serious security threat either in Afghanistan or from Afghanistan to other countries," Ahmad pointed out.

According to him, the Russian ambassador noted the close relations established between the two countries and the readiness for visits of governmental delegations from Russia to the country in the future in a number of areas of cooperation.

The agency said that the sides "discussed in detail a comprehensive cooperation in the spheres of economy, politics and security."
