A meeting of the Joint Commission of Iran and the "five" international mediators (Russia, Britain, Germany, China and France) to restore the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program will be held on Thursday, December 9. The EU delegation to the international organizations in Vienna said in a statement issued Wednesday.
Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's permanent representative in Vienna, added on Twitter that the meeting will be a resumption of the seventh round of the Vienna talks on the JCPOA. "Our contacts with the US and Iran in the Vienna talks prove that both sides are very serious about restoring the JCPOA, but their visions of ways and means differ. The challenge for the negotiators is to overcome these differences. This is feasible in light of the unity of purpose," Ulyanov said.
The seventh round of talks on the Iranian nuclear deal and the lifting of US sanctions began on November 29 and ended on December 3. European participants returned to their countries for additional consultations before continuing the dialogue. During the talks, Tehran presented the parties with a draft agreement to renew the nuclear deal in the form of two documents dealing with the lifting of US sanctions and issues on the atomic program. The US delegation does not participate in the direct talks with Iran or the Joint Commission meetings, but is present in Vienna for separate consultations with the other parties to the Iranian nuclear agreement.
