Tank crews of Russia's 201st military base in Tajikistan made a 200-kilometer march to the Kharb-Maidon training range near the border with Afghanistan, the press service of the Central Military District said on Tuesday.

"During the march, T-72 tank crews practiced issues of combat convoy protection, overcoming conditionally contaminated terrain, repelling attacks by sabotage and reconnaissance groups and strikes by 'enemy' aircraft. Upon arrival at the firing range, the crews began to engineer positions and shelters for combat vehicles," the statement said.

The district's press service told TASS that about 50 pieces of military equipment have been transferred so far. It is not reported how many military personnel will take part in the upcoming exercises at the Kharb-Maidon training ground.

Earlier it was reported that militaries of Russia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan would hold joint exercises from August 5 to 10. The core of the Russian contingent will consist of units of the 201st base, including mountain motorized riflemen, tank crews, artillerymen and special-purpose units.
