Secretary-General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Imangali Tasmagambetov has discussed with the UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo the prospects of integrating CSTO peacekeeping capabilities into relevant operations of the world organization. This was reported on the CSTO website on Friday.

"The parties noted the progressive development of working contacts between the two organizations in the field of maintaining international peace and security, including the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, cross-border crime and illegal migration. They also considered the prospects of activating cooperation on peacekeeping issues, including the integration of the CSTO collective peacekeeping potential in peacekeeping operations under the UN Security Council mandate," reported the organization following the meeting in Moscow.

In addition, the sides paid special attention to regional problems in the CSTO area of responsibility, as well as the prospects for strengthening cooperation with the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia. "The parties highly assessed the cooperation established between the CSTO Secretariat and specialized structures of the UN Secretariat, which is concrete and constructive in nature. They particularly noted the CSTO Secretariat's participation in the international discussion "New Agenda for Peace" initiated by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres," the statement reads.

Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their intention to further develop cooperation between the CSTO and the UN on the basis of the joint Declaration of 18 March 2010.
