Tatarstan and Turkmenistan have agreed to expand cooperation

30 April 2019

As part of a working visit to Turkmenistan, President of Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the national holiday of the Central Asian Republic - the Day of the Akhal-Teke horse.

Here, on the festive Maydan, an official meeting of Minnikhanov with the Turkmen colleague Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow was held.

The Heads of the two Republics have discussed issues of further development of economic cooperation.

Minnikhanov reminded that the largest Tatarstan companies, including “KAMAZ” and “Tatneft”, operate in Turkmenistan today.

At the same time, the volume of commodity turnover of Tatarstan and Turkmenistan is still relatively small and amount to about $ 25 million.

In May a meeting of the Tatarstan-Turkmenistan working group will be held which promises a new impetus to trade and economic cooperation between Tatarstan and Turkmenistan.

Berdimuhamedow also has highlighted the great potential of cooperation between the two Republics. According to him, apart from the economic interaction, it is necessary to develop ties in the field of culture, science and education.

The parties tentatively have agreed on holding the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan in Tatarstan in October of this year, and in April of next year, the Days of Culture of Tatarstan in Turkmenistan.
