Tehran hopes that a meeting between the presidents of Russia and Iran could take place in any of the two capitals in the near future in confirmation of the privileged bilateral relations of strategic partnership, Iranian foreign minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said this on Wednesday at a joint press conference following talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
"We hope that in the near future our presidents could hold a meeting in one of the capitals," he said. - "The mutual agreement to this effect shows that our relations are strategic and privileged. Russia occupies a priority place in our foreign policy, and we take Russia as a strategic partner".
The Iranian foreign minister said the sides have agreed to soon begin discussing a document on strategic partnership and that Tehran is ready to submit its considerations in writing in this regard. "This will be a new roadmap for our long-term bilateral cooperation," he said.
"It is necessary to identify and remove obstacles to ensuring a qualitative breakthrough in our relations, primarily in the trade and economic sphere," the minister continued. - "More than 70% of our citizens have already been vaccinated, so we see no obstacles for our businessmen to come to Russia in order to develop mutual contacts and build up further business activities."
According to him, Iran considers the expansion and deepening of trade and economic relations with Russia a priority. "Both countries have significant economic potential, on the basis of which a breakthrough increase in trade turnover in bilateral trade for the benefit of our peoples can be achieved," Abdollahian stressed.
