Iran is interested in becoming a hub for production of the Russian vaccine, Sputnik V, in the Middle East. This was announced by Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper on Monday.
‘Iran is interested in becoming a regional hub for the production of the Russian vaccine’, the Ambassador told the newspaper, expressing hope that production of Sputnik V would soon start in Iran.
Kazem Jalali also clarified that once the population of the Islamic republic is vaccinated, the country will start helping others. ‘When the vaccine is produced in our country, it will be under license of the Russian Federation, Moscow together with Tehran will jointly decide where to send the vaccine’, he added.
On February 9, free voluntary immunization with the Russian vaccine, Sputnik V, started in Iran. The first step is to vaccinate staff in intensive care units. The next step is to vaccinate the rest of medical workers and people over the age of 65.
