Tehran to respond by midnight to EU proposals on nuclear deal

15 August 2022

Tehran will give a written answer to Enrique More, the coordinator of the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear deal from the EU, on the proposals of the European side by midnight (22:30 Moscow time), Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said.

"We will provide a final response in writing to the EU coordinator by midnight," the Tasmin news agency quoted him as saying. According to the minister, "if the US response is feasible and flexible, an agreement will be reached, otherwise negotiations will still be needed."

He noted that "at recent talks in Vienna, the US side verbally stated a willingness to be flexible on two issues, but written [assurances] must follow."

On August 11, The Wall Street Journal reported that European Union diplomats had drafted the final text of a document to restore the nuclear deal with Iran. According to the information, the EU offered Tehran concessions on the issue of the investigation into the nuclear material discovered by the IAEA, the origin of which the Iranian side did not explain. The publication notes that Brussels' proposal is a step towards Tehran, as this investigation is one of the key problems for the West.
