Terrorist Attack in Pakistan Injures 21 People

27 November 2023

A terrorist attack in the Bannu district of Pakistan's northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has left at least 21 people injured. According to the Dawn newspaper, a suicide bomber on a motorcycle targeted a convoy of security forces en route to North Waziristan for an anti-terrorist operation. The blast resulted in the death of one civilian and injuries to 21 others, including 13 soldiers. The wounded soldiers, three of whom are in critical condition, were transported to the hospital.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), (the Pakistani faction of the Taliban banned in Russia), claimed responsibility for the attack. On November 26, security forces eliminated eight TTP militants in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Radical groups in North and South Waziristan are advocating for the establishment of the so-called Islamic State of Waziristan.

Waziristan, situated in Pakistan's tribal zone on the border with Afghanistan, is considered a hotspot due to the presence and activities of al-Qaeda (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation), TTP, and other extremist structures.
