A gang of terrorists from the Islamic State (IS, banned in Russia) attacked three buses carrying oil workers from al-Taim field in Deir ez-Zor on Friday. Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Bassam Toumeh told Al Ekhbariya TV channel.
"As a result of the armed raid, 10 specialists were killed and two others were wounded," he noted. - "All of them were members of the shift team, working on a rotational basis at the oil facility".
The minister specified that the terrorists ambushed the buses in the early morning hours. "The militants took advantage of the poor visibility due to weather conditions in the Syrian desert and attacked the bus while the fog had not yet cleared." Units of the Syrian army arrived in the area of the incident.
Toumeh emphasized that the terrorist sortie came at a time when Syrians are in dire need of petroleum products. "The Syrian people are suffering from an oil crisis," he said. - "And the terrorists attacked those who are now providing the minimum needs of the population."
According to the Syrian minister, "the US occupation forces and their local enablers are behind this insidious plan."
Al-Taim deposit is located 25 kilometers from the provincial center of Deir ez-Zor in the east of Syria. The last terrorist attack in the area was in May 2020. At that time, a gang of terrorists tried to seize an oil facility.
