Terrorists Infiltrating from Afghanistan Eliminated in Tajikistan

06 September 2023

Three terrorists crossed the Tajik-Afghan border and entered Tajikistan, where they were subsequently eliminated by the country's security forces when they put up resistance. This information was reported by Tajikistan's State Committee for National Security.

"On the night of August 29-30, 2023, three individuals belonging to an international terrorist organization illegally crossed the Tajik-Afghan border near the village of Kevron in the Darvaz district of the Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous province of Tajikistan. Their intention was to carry out a terrorist act on Tajikistan's territory, timed to coincide with the State Independence Day. In response, a counter-terrorist operation was conducted, resulting in the elimination of all three members of the terrorist group," the committee's message reads, published on the website of the Khovar national news agency.

As per the committee's report, a dedicated task force had been tracking the movements of these terrorists, ultimately surrounding and neutralizing them on September 5. Further investigations revealed that all three terrorists were affiliated with the banned group Jamaat Ansarullah and had warrants issued against them under Tajikistan's Criminal Code for their unlawful involvement in armed conflicts in foreign countries.

In addition to their weaponry, the terrorists had pre-positioned a significant cache of weapons, ammunition, explosives, cash in hand, and communication devices that were smuggled in from Afghanistan. Furthermore, they possessed notebooks containing notes, diagrams, maps, and instructions pertaining to explosive devices, their deployment, and details on locations of potential targets, including areas of mass assembly, government structures, and institutions. Ongoing operational and investigative actions are being conducted.
