The activity of drones used by international terrorists for reconnaissance and attacks on Russian naval and airbase in Syria has decreased due to the effective use of electronic warfare (EW) means, Vadim Revin, commander of the EW service of the Russian group of troops in the republic, told reporters.

On April 15 each year the Russian Armed Forces celebrate the Day of Electronic Warfare, a professional holiday established by a decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin dated May 31, 2006. Soldiers of the 20th shift of electronic warfare of the Russian grouping of troops in Syria meet this day at combat posts.

"The electronic warfare troops continue to successfully perform special tasks in the Syrian Arab Republic to counter the technical means of reconnaissance of illegal armed groups, making a huge contribution to the victory over international terrorism. Based on the high efficiency of electronic warfare means and REB troops as a whole, the enemy is using various technical means to attack the Khmeimimim airbase less and less," Revin said.

The latest developments

The commander of the electronic warfare service noted that electronic warfare equipment is constantly being improved. "Our scientific units together with the military industry are developing new forms, methods of application of electronic warfare means. New forms of electronic warfare tactics are being developed," Revin added.

Valery Manykayev, commander of the electronic warfare platoon, demonstrated portable Stupor and Stilet electronic warfare experimental devices enabling the Russian military to intercept the control of a drone in the line of sight.

He also showed the journalists the drones and drones of the fighters, intercepted by the 20th shift of electronic warfare of the group of Russian troops in Syria: two serial quadcopters and a homemade drone, which carried a payload.

Radio-electronic dome

Denis Kulikov, head of the electronic warfare service in the Tartus bases, said that electronic warfare systems in Syria created a kind of dome against the militants' aircraft. The jamming module "Pole-21" and the complex "Ratnik-kupol" designed to suppress the control channels of unmanned aerial vehicles are used here.

The sky is also covered by the latest Russian electronic warfare systems capable of "blinding" enemy aviation pilots and counteracting space satellites with radar stations. Targets are detected by the Krasukha S-4 complex and suppressed by onboard radars installed on the ships TK 25.
