The ambassador called the reason for Russian tourists’ deaths in Turkey

11 September 2019

Since the beginning of the tourist season in 2019, 88 Russian tourists have died in Turkey. The number of deaths increased due to the general increase in the flow of Russian tourists in Turkey, Russian Ambassador to Ankara Alexey Yerkhov told RIA Novosti.

"This season, which is not over yet, unfortunately, was very difficult in terms of the number of incidents with Russian tourists in the south of Turkey. As of today, 88 deaths have been recorded, as well as about 40 facts of medical evacuation. This is due to the increasing tourist flow from Russia. In 2018, about 6 million Russians visited Turkey, this year this indicator is expected to grow", - he said.

The causes of death of Russian tourists, according to Erkhov, are banal. Most deaths occur as a result of an exacerbation of cardiovascular diseases. There are still many facts when Russians abuse alcohol, and this leads to tragedies.

The number of accidents with tourist buses and at pedestrian crossings also increased.
