Baku said an Armenian "armed group" attacked Azerbaijani military positions in Karabakh.

"On December 27, around 3:30 pm (2:30 pm MSK), an illegal Armenian armed group or the remaining detachment of six remnants of the Armenian Armed Forces in the territory attacked the Azerbaijani army units in the direction of Aghdam (Akaku) village of the Khojavend region," the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported.

According to the ministry, one soldier was killed and another was wounded. The wounded was evacuated to a hospital, his life is not threatened.

Azerbaijani servicemen liquidated six attackers, the Ministry of Defense added.

At the end of September fighting resumed in Nagorno-Karabakh, which became a continuation of the long-standing conflict and resulted in civilian casualties.

The sides made several attempts to conclude a cease-fire, but a trilateral agreement reached on the night of November 10 proved successful. With Moscow mediating, Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to a complete cease-fire and to an exchange of prisoners and dead bodies. Yerevan also gave Kelbajar, Lachin and Agdam districts to Baku. In addition, Russian peacekeepers were stationed in the region.
