The CEC of Belarus announced the election results

The current President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko won the presidential election, which was held on August 9. The relevant information was published on Friday on the website of the CEC of the country.

 

 

"The election results were approved by the Commission's decision. Alexander Lukashenko has been elected as the President of the Republic of Belarus," the statement reads.


According to the Commission, Lukashenko won 80.1% of the vote, while 10.12% of voters voted for Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who was called his main competitor.


Votes for other candidates were distributed as follows: Andrey Dmitriev-1.21%, Anna Kanopatskaya-1.68%, Sergey Cherechen-1.14%, against all-4.59%.

 

 

After the announcement of the results of the exit polls on the evening of August 9, mass protests began in the center of Minsk and in some other cities of the Republic, which turned into clashes with law enforcement officers. As a result, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, about 6 thousand people were detained, dozens of police officers and demonstrators were injured. The Ministry reported on Friday that more than 2 thousand detainees have already been released home, the process of release continues.
