The Commander of the Russian peacekeepers discussed with the Armenian side the issue of bringing forces into Karabakh

The Russian commander of peacekeeping forces in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, Lieutenant General Rustam Muradov, on Wednesday held talks with the Armenian Defense Minister and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. The parties discussed the issue of deploying peacekeepers, a source in the Russian peacekeeping forces' headquarters told TASS.


"During the meeting, the sides discussed issues related to the introduction of peacekeepers and the deployment of peacekeeping posts in the Lachin corridor and Nagorno-Karabakh, the order of deployment of units, their all-round provision and performance of tasks," the interlocutor said.


According to the source, the issues of organizing the activities of Russian peacekeeping forces in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone and ensuring the security of Russian servicemen were also discussed.


"The command of the Russian peacekeeping forces has organized interaction with the military departments of Azerbaijan and Armenia on the implementation of peacekeeping tasks, prevention of violations and ensuring the security of Russian servicemen," the source added.


On Wednesday, Head of the Main Operations Department of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Sergei Rudskoy said that over 400 Russian peacekeepers, eight helicopters, more than 50 units of automotive and special equipment were moved to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone in one day. A total of 1,960 servicemen, 90 armored personnel carriers and 380 vehicles and special equipment will be redeployed to deploy the peacekeepers in the conflict zone.


On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on the complete cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Russian leader said, in particular, that the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides were stopping at their occupied positions, and Russian peacekeepers would be deployed in the region. In addition, Baku and Yerevan should exchange prisoners and dead bodies.
