Acting President, Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov was acquitted by the court in the case of an attempt to seize power in the country in 2012, the press service of the Supreme Court of the Republic told TASS.
"Zhaparov, as well as Talent Mamytov ( Parliament Member) and Kamchybek Tashiyev ( Head of the State Committee for National Security), were acquitted in the case of an attempt to seize power," the press service of the court told TASS.
In 2012, Zhaparov, Tashiyev, Mamytov and several hundred more people tried to force their way into the national parliament building during a rally in Bishkek's central square. They were subsequently convicted for attempting to seize power.
"By the decision of the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic, the motions of convicts Zhaparov, Tashiyev and Mamytov to review under newly discovered circumstances and resume the consideration of the case were satisfied," the statement of the press service of the Supreme Court reads.
Zhaparov is also currently a defendant in the criminal case of hostage-taking. According to the investigation, in 2013, during a rally in Karakol, he and his supporters took Emilbek Kaptagayev, the presidential envoy to the Issyk-Kul region, as a hostage. In 2017, Zhaparov was sentenced to 11.5 years in prison in this case, the defendant then called the case "politically motivated".
Currently, the case of Zhaparov's hostage-taking is sent for reconsideration.
