The Federation Council explained the West's ban on asking for help from Russia

The West fears that its failures in the fight against the coronavirus will generate sympathy for allies in Russia and China. This opinion was expressed by the head of the International Committee of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev, commenting on the publication of Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov for the Chinese edition of Global Times, in which the Minister mentioned the accusations made against Moscow of wanting to use humanitarian and medical assistance to "strengthen geopolitical influence".

According to Lavrov, the situation has reached "humiliating prohibitions that contradict basic diplomatic norms to apply to Russia for medical and humanitarian assistance-regardless of how dire the situation is."

Kosachev, according to RIA Novosti, stressed that the problem voiced by Lavrov did not surprise him.

"Unfortunately, it fits into the logic of the behavior of our geopolitical opponents - the so-called collective West. In any situation, even when it affects the interests, security and health of people, they put at the forefront the task of ensuring their own dominance in the world, and not through close competition, but through the suppression of rivals," the Senator said, adding that the West does not stop "dividing into allies and opponents" even when the world needs a collective response to common trouble.

"Indeed, there is outright blackmail and intimidation of those countries that can theoretically imagine a rapprochement with Russia on the principles of countering the pandemic," Kosachev concluded.
