The new stage of escalation of tension between Palestine and Israel is the result of Washington's clumsy actions, Oleg Morozov, a member of the Federation Council's International Affairs Committee, told RIA Novosti.
"This is a very dangerous stage in the escalation of tension between Israel and the Palestinians, as well as in the Middle East as a whole. It is the result of very clumsy actions of Washington, which systematically dismantled all the international legal foundations of the Palestinian-Israeli settlement, " Morozov said, in particular.
The key mistake, according to him, is that there is no solution to this conflict that takes into account the interests of one side and ignores the interests of the other.
"The resolution should be found only on the path of law and in the presence of international guarantees for both sides of the conflict. The United States alone cannot be such a guarantor, as life has shown," the Senator stressed.
Earlier, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said that Palestine had decided to terminate all agreements with Israel and the United States against the background of the Israeli government's intentions to annex Palestinian lands.
Palestine, as Abbas stressed, is ready to return to negotiations on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict mediated by a third party. They can take place with international participation in the form of a peaceful international conference in accordance with international law.
This decision of the Palestinian authority, as Boris Dolgov, a leading researcher at the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said RIA Novosti, is connected "with the policy that both the United States and Israel pursue with regard to the Palestinian territory and the Palestinian problem as such."
"We know that the current US administration supports Israel in all its actions that contradict earlier decisions on the Palestinian issue, is the moving of the Embassy to Jerusalem, and, accordingly, the transfer of the capital to Jerusalem and what is Palestinian land that was intended for them by the UN resolution of 1947, in effect annexes Israel build Jewish settlements, and they are de facto joining Israel", said Dolgov.
He noted that this "creeping" annexation of Palestinian land by Israel continues with the support of the United States, despite the demonstrations and statements of a number of representatives of the world community.
"The decision of the Palestinian authority is a response and reaction to such actions," the expert stated.
According to him, the US has already ceased to be an objective actor acting in the interests of solving the Palestinian problem, and it fully supports Israel's illegal actions.
"If we talk about the prospects, this is an aggravation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, in many respects the Arab-Israeli one. The actions of the United States and Israel led to this development. There is no unity in the Palestinian national movement itself, there are contradictions between the leadership of Abbas and the leadership of HAMAS, and this also has a negative effect on the solution of the Palestinian problem. The difficulties within the Palestinian movement are used by Israel and the United States to advance their interests, to consolidate the status quo, and to annex Palestinian lands," the orientalist concluded.
