Russia expects that the implementation of the agreement between the United States and the radical Taliban * will lead to the complete withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan and the achievement of inter-Afghan reconciliation, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.
"We expect that the implementation of the US-Taliban agreement, which was signed on February 29 this year in Doha, will lead to the complete withdrawal of foreign troops and the achievement of inter-Afghan national reconciliation," Zakharova said at a briefing.
In Afghanistan, there is a confrontation between government forces and militants of the "Taliban"* radical movement , which previously seized significant territory in rural areas of the country and launched an offensive on major cities. The influence of the terrorist group "Islamic state" * has also increased in the country. The national defense and security forces of Afghanistan are conducting joint counter-terrorism operations throughout the country.
In late February, at a ceremony in Qatar, the US and the Taliban* signed the first peace agreement in more than 18 years of war, which provides for the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan in 14 months and the beginning of an inter-Afghan dialogue after the prisoner exchange deal.
