The head of the RIAC called the OPEC+ deal an important event

13 April 2020

OPEC+ deal was called "a very non-trivial event in the energy sector and the economy as a whole" by the Director-General of the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) Andrey Kortunov.

In an interview with RIA Novosti, the expert noted that previously, decisions on such significant reduction were not made.

"If to look at it politically, this is a very non-trivial event in the energy sector and in the economy as a whole. There have never even been close to such reductions, which is more than anything we have seen in the past, and never has such a number of exporters participated in such an agreement. This is, of course, a big event," Kortunov said, in particular.

Last weekend, OPEC+ approved a new reduction in oil production from the level of October 2018: at the first stage, the Alliance members will reduce production by 9.7 million barrels, then by 8 and 6 million. For Russia and Saudi Arabia, the reference point will be 11 million barrels per day.
