The headquarters of Russia and Syria reported on the situation around the Rukban camp

26 June 2020

The United States is ready to release refugees from the Rukban camp in exchange for help for the militants under its control, a statement by the heads of the Russian and Syrian headquarters for the return of refugees to the SAR Mikhail Mizintsev and Hussein Makhlouf reads.

It is emphasized that Russia and Syria continue to make efforts to disband the Rukban refugee camp as soon as possible, and the only obstacle remains "the hypocritical position of the American side, which declares its commitment to universally recognized humanitarian values and human freedoms, but does nothing to comply with them."

"The United States once again demonstrates its readiness to release everyone from Rukban in exchange for delivering humanitarian aid to the camp. Thus, the American side seeks to provide the militants under its control with everything necessary at the expense of international humanitarian organizations, instead of solving the problems of the camp by its own forces, as required by international law from the occupying party, " the statement reads.

It is emphasized that Russia and Syria have already given their consent to the delivery of gum cargo to the el-Tanf zone in September 2019 and fulfilled all their obligations, but the implementation of the plan developed jointly with the UN for the withdrawal of residents was actually disrupted by Washington.

"Contrary to numerous promises of the United States to influence the militants under their control, the leaders of illegal armed groups appropriated the bulk of humanitarian aid and unilaterally shortened the duration of the humanitarian mission, forbidding residents to leave the camp. As a result, instead of the stated 2,500 people, only 336 Syrian citizens left Rukban, "the statement says.
