The Holy month of Ramadan begins for Muslims around the world

23 April 2020

This evening, the Holy month of Ramadan starts, when the believers observe a strict fast and pray hard.

This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, prayers in mosques will be held without parishioners: believers are required to perform namaz at home.

The traditional sermon of the Imam is also recommended to be listened to online.

Ulema, meanwhile, note that patients with the coronavirus may not fast if it is contraindicated for health reasons. The missed days of fasting can be fulfilled after recovery.

The thirty-day fast will end on May 23, and the next day there is the feast of Eid al-Fitr or Uraza Bairam.

Earlier, the Council of Ulema of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia decided that this year, it is possible to pay zakat earlier than usual, due to the epidemiological situation. This decision applies to self-employed people who have been left out of work due to coronavirus, employees who have been quarantined, and so on.
