Russian companies have expressed interest in participating in plans to move the capital of Indonesia to East Kalimantan province, the country's Ambassador to Russia Mohamad Wahid Supriyadi told RIA Novosti.

Indonesian authorities last August announced plans to move the country's capital from Jakarta to East Kalimantan. It was noted that the first buildings of the new city – the presidential Palace and the Parliament building complex-should be built by 2024. Overpopulation in Jakarta and satellite cities causes problems in the field of health and ecology, many hours of traffic jams, in connection with which it was decided to build a new capital.

"There is also interest from the Russian side in participating in the creation of new capital in Kalimantan, for example, in those areas where Russia is quite advanced – IT and energy, "Supriyadi said, noting the experience of Russians in building so-called"smart cities".

Last week, Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Lyudmila Vorobyova said that Russian companies have good opportunities to cooperate with Indonesia in connection with its plans to move the capital. The Ambassador also noted a number of investment projects that are already being implemented in Indonesia with the participation of Russia, including the construction of a refinery in East Java province through Rosneft.
