The leaders of the EEC call for international cooperation in the face of a pandemic

The leaders of the Eurasian Economic Council  (EEC) adopted a joint statement following a meeting on efforts to combat coronavirus.


The heads of states, in particular, called on all countries of the world to support international cooperation, stop armed conflicts and trade wars, as well as unilateral sanctions, and "strictly follow the norms of international law".


"We strongly believe that the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic should not lead to the rupture of established cooperative ties, the suspension of international trade, and the termination of investment activities," the final statement reads.


The leaders of the EEC countries confirmed their readiness to maintain the achieved level of integration and further economic development of the participants of the Association and instructed the governments to take "coordinated measures to preserve the stability of domestic markets, support citizens and businesses against the background of the spread of COVID-19".


The meeting of the leaders of the Eurasian Economic Council in the format of a videoconference was held today on the initiative of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.


Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the event.
