Malaysian police officers, together with representatives of the communications and multimedia commission, raided the Al Jazeera representative office in the country on Tuesday and seized documentation and equipment, New Straits Times reports with reference to the representative of the office of criminal investigations of law enforcement agencies, Faridalatrash Wahid.

"Searches of employees of departments took place in the first half of the day," he said. According to the publication, all the documentation that was in the representative office, which is located in the suburbs of Kuala Lumpur, was seized. Computers and electronic equipment were also confiscated.

The Malaysian police in early July began checking the activities of Al Jazeera. The reason was a 25-minute documentary made by the channel and aired about the situation of illegal migrants during the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the reaction of the authorities. Senior Minister, Malaysian Defense Minister Ismail Sabri Yacob accused the channel of spreading false information and demanded an apology.
