Russia and the UAE have called for dialogue in the Persian Gulf

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with  UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Moscow, June 26, 2019.

 

 


As noted on the website of the Russian MFA, diplomats highly valued the current level of interaction,  "which is marked by intensive contacts at every level, including between our governments and parliaments".

 

 


Special attention is paid to international issues, in particular, the situation in the Middle East and North Africa.

 

 


"We also voiced a common approach towards resolving numerous conflicts in this region through political and diplomatic efforts and in line with international law. This is how our countries view the situation in Syria, Yemen, and Libya. We also focused on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict settlement which should be based on - and we all agree with it - decisions taken in the resolutions of the UN Security Council, UN General Assembly, and Arab Peace Initiative", - commented Lavrov.

 

 


As for the situation in the Persian Gulf, the parties expressed their interest in "de-escalation, development of positive and unifying agenda, which, based on dialogue, will contribute to dispelling any existing misunderstanding and contradictions.
