The new Emir of Kuwait took an oath before Parliament

30 September 2020

The new Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, took an oath of allegiance on Wednesday before the National Assembly (parliament) as the country's new ruler.

The 83-year-old Crown Prince was named Emir on Tuesday after the death of the 91-year-old Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who died in the United States, where he was treated since July. Already then, in connection with the hospitalization of the head of state, his half-brother Crown Prince Nawaf was given a number of powers.
According to the Constitution of Kuwait, the heir to the throne after the death of the governor automatically becomes the emir, but takes all the power only after taking an oath before the parliament.
