16 April 2019

The fire that has happened in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, are similar to the events in Syria associated with the loss of centuries-old historical and cultural monuments. This was announced in an interview for RIA Novosti by the Deputy Head of the Directorate of Excavations and Cultural Heritage Studies of the Office of Historical Heritage and Museums of Syria Hammam Saad.

He claimed that when he was in Aleppo, the news of the fire in the Cathedral found him.

«This is very, very, very sad news. This is a historic building, which is the main point for tourists visiting France. Actually, i can’t find any words to express how upset I am with this sad news. The Cathedral is not only a French Heritage, but also a worldwide one», the agency quotes the expert.

According to Saad, the fire in the Temple reminds of what happened to the Syrian cultural heritage.

«What has happened in the Notre-Dame Cathedral should be treated the same way as the interested persons and specialists treated the Syrian heritage. This situation worries us as specialists, as educated people and as ordinary citizens», he emphasized.

It is known that, last night a large-scale fire swept Notre-Dame. As a result, collapsed roof, oak spire and clock of the Cathedral. The main relics, including the crown of thorns of Jesus Christ, didn’t suffer in the fire.
