The Russia – Islamic World Program Includes Films from 9 Countries

“Russia – Islamic World” will take part for the fifth time in the XIX Kazan International Muslim Film Festival, which will be held this year in Kazan from 5 to 9 September.


In the out-of-competition program, the Russia – Islamic World section will host works by directors from Russia, Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia and India. Tatarstan will present film Zhylak.


Chairman of the Selection Committee of the Kazan International Muslim Film Festival, Nina Kochelyaeva, noted that the central place in the presented films will be given to interpersonal relations, ethics, issues of self-preservation, life and communication of people in difficult situations.


The chairman of the Selection Committee also stressed that the program reflects all the trends of the Kazan Film Festival, especially the geographical principle. According to her, it covers the cinematography of the countries that are members of the Group of Strategic Vision «Russia – Islamic World». An exception was made to the Indian film Maryam only because it reflects Muslim themes. Besides, the cultural competition follows the principles of the Muslim Film Festival and takes into account important characteristics of the films that are accepted at the Kazan Film Forum.


The Russia – Islamic World out-of-competition program promises to be rich, educational and will make it possible to plunge into the world of mentality, traditions and customs of representatives of different nations and confessions.


The films of the Russia – Islamic World program are primarily about humanism and humanity.


The Russia – Islamic World program was presented for the first time in 2019, when the festival was held in conjunction with the Russia – Islamic World: KazanSummit 2019 XI International Economic Summit.


The XIX Kazan International Muslim Film Festival will be held in the capital of Tatarstan with the support of the head of the republic, Rustam Minnikhanov, and the Ministry of Culture of Russia, as well as in partnership with the Group of Strategic Vision «Russia – Islamic World». The motto of the festival is ‘Through Dialogue of Cultures to the Culture of Dialogue’. The fact that the film festival is becoming popular is proved by numbers: while 40 films from 12 countries were submitted to the first festival in 2005, in 2023 the Organizing Committee of the Kazan International Muslim Film Festival received 712 applications from 44 states. The main program included 52 films from 21 countries: Russia, Iran, Syria, India, Iraq, Morocco, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Greece, Oman, Kyrgystan, Tunisia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Great Britain, Senegal, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Egypt and Algeria.
