The Department of Information and press of the Russian Foreign Ministry published a comment in connection with the development of the situation in northeastern Syria.
The message says that "recent days there is a danger of increasing of tension at the Syrian-Turkish border."
"Armed clashes in the border area, the escalation of tension and violence on the Eastern Bank of the Euphrates river in general cause the most serious concern. We consider it is important to prevent further destabilization of the situation in the Northeast and to exclude the suffering of the civilian population. In this regard, we call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and carefully verify the steps taken, fully respecting the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria", the message reads.
On Wednesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the beginning of a military operation in the Northeast of Syria. The aim is to exempt the border area from the terrorists so that Syrian refugees who are currently living in Turkey can return home.
