Russian military personnel delivered a 1.2-ton shipment of food aid to the mountain village of Arna in southwestern Syria on the border with Lebanon, Arna chief of staff Salim Abu Keyes told reporters.

"First of all, I want to express my gratitude for your assistance initiatives. We are very grateful for the position of the Russian Federation in supporting the Syrian people in various ways: militarily, politically and economically," Abu Keyes said.

In turn, the Russian center for reconciliation of warring parties clarified that the soldiers delivered cereals, rice and sugar, packaged in 200 sets. The military handed them over to the local administration for further distribution among residents.

As the elder of Arna told the staff of the Russian Center, 1.7 thousand people live here, that is, 300 families and each can be considered poor. Four residents of the village were killed during the fighting, and 10 others were injured.
