The Russian Supreme Court, at the request of the Russian Prosecutor General, declared Hayat Tahrir al-Sham affiliated with Jabhat al-Nusra (recognized as a terrorist group in the Russian Federation since 2015) to be a terrorist group.  This was reported to TASS by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia.

"The Russian Supreme Court has satisfied the claims of the Prosecutor General, recognizing the organization Hayat Tahrir al-Sham terrorist,"  the supervisory authority said.

The lawsuit filed by Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov on recognizing Hayat Tahrir al-Sham as a terrorist organization and prohibiting its activities in Russia was based on the law "On countering terrorism."  According to the Russian law enforcement agencies, "the activities of this organization and the propaganda and other work it carries out constitute a serious threat to the national interests of the Russian Federation, to social and political stability and to the life and health of Russian citizens".

The administrative case was held in closed court on June 4.   The Office's claims were fully satisfied.

"Hayat Tahrir al-Sham became the 32nd organization recognized as a terrorist in Russia.
