The UN Security Council adopted a resolution supporting the signing of a peace agreement between the USA and the Afghan radical Taliban movement.

According to the draft resolution, a copy of which is available at RIA Novosti, the Security Council "welcomes significant steps towards ending the war, starting intra-Afghan negotiations, which became possible thanks to the Joint Declaration of the United States and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, as well as the agreement between the United States and the Taliban".

In addition, the UN Security Council calls on the government of Afghanistan and the Taliban (outlawed in Russia) "to implement additional confidence-building measures as a sign of good will to create conditions conducive to the rapid start and success of intra-Afghan negotiations and the establishment of a lasting peace. This includes reducing the level of violence and releasing prisoners".

"The Security Council calls on all states to provide full support for successful negotiations on a comprehensive and sustainable peace agreement that will end the war", the text reads.

The USA and the Taliban signed a peace agreement in Qatar on February 29. The document assumes the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan in 14 months and the beginning of the inter-Afghan dialogue in March after the deal on the exchange of prisoners.
