The UN Security Council will hold a private meeting on Libya

The UN Security Council will hold consultations on the situation in Libya today this afternoon. According to the Permanent Establishment of the Russian Federation at the organization, the discussion will take place in the private regime.

 

 

The meeting was requested by the United Kingdom and Germany, which is now the Chairman of the Security Council.

 

 

The UN Special Representative of Libya Ghassan Salame will tell on the current situation in Libya.

 

 

Let’s remind that last week Marshal Khalifa Haftar started an attack on Tripoli to «exemption from terrorists». His units have already established control over several settlements southern of the Libyan capital.

 

 

The Armed Forces who loyal to the Libyan Government, in turn, launched a military operation «Tantrum» against the Libyan National Army, headed by Haftar.

 

 

After the overthrow and murder of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, a dual power was established in Libya, which continues to the present day. The Parliament elected by the people sits in the east, and the capital Tripoli is in the west, where the Government of National Agreement was formed with the support of the United Nations and the European Union.
