More than 120 million people around the world are experiencing severe hunger. At the same time, international organizations hope to eradicate it by 2030, said David Beasley, Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Program, RIA Novosti reports.
“Our goal is to end hunger and malnutrition in all its forms by 2030, and we set this goal in line with Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG),” he said. “However, all over the world, 821 million people are still hungry, with 124 million people experiencing severe hunger.”
Beasley also emphasized that successes achieved in the fight against hunger "are thrown back when people encounter with conflicts and climate problems".
“Wars are being dragged out and new conflicts are breaking out - these are our biggest problems, - said Beasley. - Peace and food security, when everyone has enough food, go hand in hand - this is the only way to zero hunger. I keep saying: the first thing that world leaders need to do in order to resolve the problem of hunger is to stop wars.”
