The World Muslim Communities Council (WMCC) on Monday supported the decision of the authorities of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to conclude an agreement with Israel to normalize relations.
"The WMCC emphasizes its support for the decision of the UAE leadership and the efforts of Emirati diplomacy that led to the agreement between the UAE and Israel. It is aimed at ending conflicts in the region and promoting the values of peace among its peoples by meeting the legitimate demands of the Palestinian people through the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital," the communique reads, as cited by the Emirati News Agency (WAM).
"This historic step will lead to global stability and peace based on human values that promote dialogue, coexistence and tolerance among all religions and cultures," the WMCC expressed its conviction.
The Council called on all "to work together to end wars and conflicts that lead to the loss of innocent lives". The WMCC also condemned "hatred and incitement directed against peace initiatives in the Arab region". It called on "all peace-loving countries, organizations and peoples to resist such incitement and support efforts aimed at consolidating peace."
The first meeting of the WMCC General Secretariat was held in October 2018 in Abu Dhabi. It approved the organization's program of activities, which is designed to promote integration processes while preserving the national and religious identity of millions of Muslims living in multicultural and multi-ethnic countries. Russian Muslim spiritual leaders and experts also take part in the work of the WMCC.
The agreement on full normalization
US President Donald Trump announced on August 13 that Israel and the UAE reached an agreement on the full normalization of bilateral relations. According to the agreements, Israel will suspend the extension of its sovereignty to Jewish settlements in the West Bank, which is stipulated by the American plan for the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The delegations of Israel and the UAE may sign bilateral agreements this week, including on investment, tourism, direct flights, security, telecommunications, technology, energy, health, culture, the environment, and the mutual establishment of embassies.
The Prime Minister of the state of Palestine Mohammad Shtayyeh for his part, on Monday criticized the agreement between the UAE and Israel, calling it "a blatant violation of the Arab consensus in connection with the Israeli occupation of Palestine." In his view, this agreement "encourages Israel to continue its aggression and settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories".
