Three checkpoints in Syria to be suspended due to shelling

30 March 2021

The operation of three checkpoints in Idlib and Aleppo provinces will be suspended from March 30 due to the fact that the terrorists in the territory controlled by the Turkish armed forces in Syria are shelling the corridors and blocking the movement of citizens, Rear Admiral Alexander Karpov, deputy head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the Warring Parties in Syria, told reporters.

According to him, the situation continues to deteriorate in areas adjacent to the checkpoints "Saraqib" and "Miznaz" in Idlib province and "Abu Zeidin" in Aleppo province opened with the assistance of the Russian Center.

"Terrorist organizations that have stepped up their activities in the territory controlled by the Turkish Armed Forces in Syria are carrying out provocative shelling and blocking the movement of citizens and vehicles in the exit corridors. Under the existing conditions, beginning from March 30 the work of the above-mentioned checkpoints will be temporarily suspended until the situation is stabilized and conditions to ensure the safety of civilians are created," Karpov said.

He emphasized that the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the Warring Parties in Syria calls on the commanders of the illegal armed formations to abandon armed provocations and take the path of a peaceful settlement of the situation in the regions under their control.
