Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has called for strengthening cooperation between Central Asian countries and the United Nations. Speaking at the 6th consultative meeting of Central Asian leaders in Astana on August 9, Tokayev emphasized the importance of close interaction with the UN.
The summit, which also saw the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia head Kakha Imnadze, highlighted the significance of the Treaty on Friendship, Good-Neighborliness, and Cooperation for the Development of Central Asia in the 21st century.
Tokayev stated, “I am convinced that within multilateral frameworks, primarily through the UN, our countries should act based on consolidated approaches. With our combined potential, we can significantly contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Agenda.”
He proposed the adoption of a UN General Assembly resolution on advancing sustainable development goals in Central Asia by the UN's 80th anniversary. Tokayev expressed hope that the participation of UN High Representative Kakha Imnadze would become a tradition, fostering closer cooperation between Central Asia and the UN.
The president of Kazakhstan reaffirmed Astana’s commitment to deepening regional cooperation and expressed confidence that the decisions made at the meeting would enhance multidimensional partnerships, reflecting a spirit of enduring friendship and mutual support.
