Tokayev appoints new ambassador of Kazakhstan to Russia

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev appointed former Deputy CIS Secretary-General and former Minister of Culture Dauren Abayev as the republic's new ambassador to Russia. This was reported by the press service of the country's leader.


"By presidential decree, Dauren Askerbekovich Abayev was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation," the presidential decree reads.


On June 16, Tokayev relieved Yermek Kosherbayev of his post as Kazakhstan's ambassador to Russia and appointed him head of the administration of the East Kazakhstan Region.


Abayev was born in 1979. In recent years, he served as minister of information and social development, as well as first deputy head of the administration of the president of Kazakhstan. He also served as press secretary from 2011-2016 and later as an adviser to the first president of the republic, Nursultan Nazarbayev. From January 2022 to January 2023, he was the minister of culture and sports of the republic. In March of this year he was appointed CIS deputy secretary-general.
