Tokayev calls Qatar Kazakhstan's most important partner in the Middle East

Qatar is the most important partner for Kazakhstan in the Middle East, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at a meeting on Wednesday in Astana with Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.


"Today we plan to reach agreements on the most important issues of bilateral relations. The state of Qatar is the most important partner for us in the Middle East. Therefore, we are ready to direct all efforts towards further development of our relations," the press service of the head of Kazakhstan quoted Tokayev as saying.


According to the press service, Al Thani said that the countries "have established good relations."


The emir of Qatar arrived in Kazakhstan on Tuesday on a state visit. He will attend the summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) to be held in Astana on October 13. Leaders from Azerbaijan, Iraq, Iran, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, Palestine, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan are expected to attend. In addition, the president of Belarus will take part in the forum, as the republic is an observer in CICA.
