Building up international cooperation in the military-technical sphere is an important priority for Kazakhstan. The statement was made on Friday by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the ceremonial meeting on the occasion of Defender of the Fatherland Day that is celebrated in the republic on May 7.

The president said that Kazakhstan's military doctrine is extremely defensive and the government relies on diplomacy to protect national interests. He stressed that Kazakhstan's foreign policy has a constructive and balanced nature and Nur-Sultan builds friendly relations with all countries.

"But in the context of unprecedented geostrategic tensions in the world, increasing the country's defense capacity takes on special importance for us. An important priority for Kazakhstan is also the increase of international cooperation in the military-technical sphere. Thanks to its peacekeeping activities, Kazakhstan's army has earned recognition at the international level. In the 1990s, we first sent peacekeepers to Tajikistan. Kazakhstan's military successfully served in the UN and OSCE missions. Today our peacekeeping contingent is present in Lebanon and Western Sahara," his press service quotes Tokayev as saying.

According to the president, all of this strengthens the authority of Kazakhstan as a reliable international partner able to make a significant contribution to the preservation of peace and stability. In addition, Kazakhstan attaches great importance to providing the armed forces with high-tech weapons and equipment.

"Today our army is equipped in accordance with world standards. At the same time, new global challenges require the search for optimal solutions to improve the combat effectiveness of our armed forces. Therefore, on my instructions, special operations units capable of highly mobile and hybrid warfare have been created. Given the experience of recent events in the world, we are constantly improving our combat strategy and tactics. The personnel increases their combat readiness and conducts large-scale exercises. A modern training system for future officers has been built," Tokayev explained.
