Tokayev: Patriarch Kirill's participation in the Congress of Religions will spur interfaith dialogue

Participation of Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill in the forthcoming Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Kazakhstan will give an impulse to interconfessional dialogue. President of the republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said this on Friday during a meeting with Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan.


"The head of state said that the VII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions will be held in September. Its main topic will be the role of religious leaders in the spiritual and social development of mankind in the post-pandemic period. The Kazakh president expressed confidence that Kirill's participation in the forum would give a new impetus to a global interreligious and inter-civilization dialogue," the press service of the country's leader said.


During the meeting, Tokayev also expressed his appreciation for the Orthodox Church's contribution to strengthening unity and harmony in Kazakhstan. "The president emphasized that Kazakhstan's metropolitan district is carrying out extensive work to develop interethnic and inter-confessional dialogue, as well as to promote moral values," the press service noted.


According to its data, in turn, Metropolitan Alexander thanked the head of the state for a meeting and declared his support of a course on modernization and creative reforms for the good of Kazakhstan people.


The previous Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions on the theme "Religious Leaders for a Secure World" was held in the Kazakh capital on October 10-11, 2018. More than 80 delegations from 45 countries participated.
